Working document on herpetofauna of the UK Overseas territories Posted Wednesday, 08th April 2009 at 15:37:45
The HCT with financial assistance for the Joint Nature Conservation Committee, has produced a working document on the herpetofauna of the UK Overseas Territories, Crown Dependencies and Sovereign Base Areas.
News Item
These are a number of small, self-governing territories and dependencies around the world, plus two large military training areas on Cyprus, that remain under the jurisdiction of the UK or the British Crown, and support a total of 132 indigenous and 45 introduced amphibian and reptile species. The report can be seen by clicking
here.
The aim of the report is to provide a species inventory and other background information, plus identify conservation and research priorities for use by everybody concerned with the conservation of reptiles and amphibians in these territories. The document provides a sound framework for developing conservation strategies but needs additional information and comment from appropriate experts and contacts in the territories. A consultation process is underway running until the end of June 2009
